  • Structure and Operation of the Knowledge Base

The knowledge base is partitioned into Gold and Silver Domains. The Gold Domain is the repository for content that has been carefully checked and therefore satisfies high quality standards. The Silver Domain is the repository for less mature content which is still under discussion and open for improvement. Parts of the Silver Domain are marked as Silver Star red.jpg. This is reserved for content which has matured to levels of quality and significance approaching Gold standard.

Both Gold and Silver Domains are application centred, facilitating the identification of appropriate knowledge and advice for specific industrial purposes. They are organised around:

These are sector disciplines such as Built Environment, Chemical and Process Engineering, External Aerodynamics, Turbomachinery, Combustion and Heat Transfer etc.

  • Application Challenges.

These are realistic industrial test cases which can be used to judge the competency and limitations of CFD for a given Application Area;

These are generic, well studied test cases capturing important elements of the key flow physics encountered across the Application Areas.

Silver Star red.jpg and Silver are fully in the public domain.

Users are encouraged to comment on, exchange views and opinion on the Silver content in the User Feedback Page. For this they must register by clicking on "Create an account" at the top of any page. By doing this you automatically agree to the terms and conditions given in the Terms and Conditions Page.

Users will not be able to directly edit or change a Silver document, but they are highly encouraged to provide new content, either by suggesting modifications/extensions to existing content or indeed by adding new contributions. In order to do this the user must gain access to the Library Area. Email the ERCOFTAC Editorial Board with your request. (ERCOFTAC Editorial Team)

Library Overview

The Library area is where new submissions or modifications/extensions to existing Silver content is implemented. Access to this part of the Wiki is restricted to authorised registered Wiki users within the Submitters group.

Information for Contributors

The procedure for adding new content is as follows:

  • Email the ERCOFTAC Editorial Board with a request for adding a new AC or UFR or modification of an existing one ERCOFTAC Editorial Team.

The email must contain:

  • The Test case considered
  • The list of authors
  • Is the test case considered in the AC or UFR category?
  • Is it a new AC or UFR or a modification of an existing one?
  • Abstract describing briefly the contents of the new AC or UFR or which parts of an existing one are modified or extended

  • The ERCOFTAC Editorial Board will reply with an email that either approves or declines the request. If successful, the reply will contain:
  • A link to the terms and conditions that authors must agree to when contributing new content.
  • The authors must confirm their acceptance of the Terms and Conditions by email to the ERCOFTAC team.
  • The ERCOFTAC team will generate either an AC or UFR template ready for the authorised user to begin their contribution. This will be stored in the Library area.
  • Unique access to the library area with the correct link to the new article template will be provided in the email.
  • Once the Editor has reviewed the finalised contribution it will be removed from the Library area and placed in the appropriate area within the Silver Domain.

The Gold Domain is restricted to ERCOFTAC members who will be issued with privileged access. However, the list of all AC's, UFR's and abstracts are in the public domain..
